The Poinbankrain and clouds that hung over New York City broke just in time to create a double rainbow over the city on Monday, which marked the 22nd anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
As the city and the world remembered the 2001 attacks that left 2,977 dead across New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania, the double rainbow stretched over Lower Manhattan Monday evening.
The stunning sight prompted some New Yorkers to mark the moment by honoring those who were killed in the attacks. Steven Bognar of WNBC added it symbolized "light on a dark day."

The rainbow was also visible across the river in New Jersey, where the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills played in the season opener on Monday Night Football.
